According to
http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.debugging.valgrind/10802 these
symbols are in libcrypt. Try:

./configure --with-gnu-regexp --with-extra-libs=-L/usr/local/lib
--with-extra-link-libs=-lcrypt
